The aftermath of Sunday’s floods

A number of properties were flooded during Sunday’s extreme rain storm – in some cases with sewage mixed in with the floodwater. This is highly distressing for those affected.
Wirral Council is a Lead Local Flood Authority and is urgently investigating the extent of the incident. They are collecting information from households that experienced flooding.
If you experienced flooding of your property but did not report it, there is a short questionnaire which can be forwarded directly to the Council. Just get in touch with us and we will forward a copy to you. If you are aware of any neighbours who would like to report flooding to their property, please ask them to get in touch with us too.
The “Know Your Flood Risk” campaign has produced comprehensive, practical guides covering what to do both to prepare for future flooding events and after a flood has occurred, which you may find useful. These can be downloaded from their website at www.knowyourfloodrisk.co.uk
If you experience flooding by sewage, you may find this information from United Utilities helpful:
If you’ve been flooded by sewage inside or outside your home, we understand this is a distressing and anxious time. Please call us on 0345 672 3723 as soon as possible and we’ll send a team to help with the clean up.
• We can remove sewage flood water from your home or garden
• We will clean and disinfect areas affected by the sewage flood
• We will help with the clean-up of the public highway if this has been affected by the sewage flooding incident.
If sewage flooding enters your home we automatically refund your sewerage charge for the year (minimum payment £150 up to a maximum of £1,000 per incident).
In addition to this sum, we will automatically pay you up to £100 for the disturbance the sewage flooding causes. We will determine the amount payable on a case-by-case basis.
Fortunately incidents like this are fairly uncommon on Wirral, but weather patterns do seem to be getting more extreme, so it is important that we are prepared.
