LIBERAL DEMOCRATS ‘DELIVER CHANGE AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE’ Councillor Simon Holbrook, leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Wirral Borough Council says: Last year, Liberal Democrats took the decision to share power. Given the difficulties facing us – notably a looming £45m budget deficit, a bins service in chaos, and a Council lacking direction – it was a bold decision. Yet we felt it our duty to get involved, despite the risks. We've had to make hard choices but - we've stabilised the Budget achieving over £16 million of efficiencies whilst keeping the Council Tax rise down to 3.66%, the second lowest on Merseyside. At the same time we've delivered £1 million worth of investments, and, with the new Vision and Corporate Plan, provided direction. We have led the Environmental Agenda with:
Liberal Democrats have shown that we can deliver change and make a difference. With your support we can do more. We are ambitious for Wirral. Our vision is of a more prosperous and equal Wirral, providing opportunities and an excellent quality of life for all, with first class affordable services. We want an economy that retains and attracts our young people. In Wirral today, a child's opportunity is shaped by background and parental income to an unacceptable degree. It doesn't have to be that way. We will work to narrow the gap in health, education and jobs. Central to our vision is the belief that the Borough belongs to its people and power belongs to individuals and communities; we have demonstrated our commitment to this with the You Decide participatory budgeting pilots. We will continue to provide leadership on the Environment. Our aim is for a carbon neutral Wirral. That's our Vision for Wirral. Support us and we'll do our best to deliver it. |
