WIRRAL CLEAN UP PROMISED AS LIB DEM CABINET MEMBERS TAKE OVER

‘Get tough on those that blight our environment'

Two of Wirral Council's new Liberal Democrat Cabinet members joined forces today to condemn the legacy left by their Conservative predecessors.

Councillor Gill Gardiner and Councilor Bob Moon have pledged to clean up Wirral during the coming year.

Councillor Gardiner, Liberal Democrat Cabinet member for the Environment said,

“It simply isn't acceptable that we are finding supermarket trolleys covered in barnacles on the shores of the Mersey estuary. The Wirral peninsula is a place that we should all be proud of, but too often it's spoilt by inconsiderate individuals who by their actions spoil it for the rest of us.

“I want to see this administration get tough on those that blight our environment through fly tipping, litter, graffiti or dog fouling. Everyone can play their part by reporting offenders, or areas that need to be cleaned up, to Streetscene on 606 2004. We need to tackle incidents before they develop into major grot spots.”

Councillor Bob Moon , Liberal Democrat Cabinet member for Culture, Tourism & Leisure said,

Shopping trolleys on the beach is not the sight that we want our visitors to see as they disembark from the Mersey ferry to visit the Spacecentre at Seacombe. We have a fantastic shoreline with views across the Mersey to the Liverpool World Heritage site, but we let our visitors and residents down by allowing sights such as these to spoil their experience.”
