WARRENS NURSERY Warrens Nursery, which has been under threat over recent years, could become a flagship of Social Enterprise if the exciting proposals for the development of further opportunities for adults with learning and/or other disabilities are endorsed by the Council. Following a request from the Social Care & Health Select committee in November Officers of the Council have produced a detailed report on a number of options for development. “I am amazed that so many options have been achieved is such a short time, this really is a credit to those involved and is worthy of congratulation. “Wirral has already achieved recognition for the imaginative and productive work at Dale Farm and other locations. If these various proposals are agreed and implemented the way Wirral treats people with special needs could become a model for others to follow. “By more disabled people becoming enabled by proper training the respective individuals will benefit and, when a Social Enterprise Business is established, contribute more to the local economy. “Everyone will benefit with the bonus of protecting and enhancing the environment. “Obviously much work has to be done to progress this development. I trust that true consultation and involvement of the users and carers along with Council Officers and Councillors will achieve a result that will be an example of good practice to other authorities and an exciting inspiration to those vulnerable people who currently may have so much untapped potential. “Here's to a brighter more fulfilling future to all who may be involved in this exciting project.” Social Enterprises are businesses with a social purpose. Their ‘outputs' include social benefits such as jobs and training as well as goods and services. Click here for the Social Care and Health Select Committee report |
