PRESSURE ON CAB MOUNTS Wirral's residents continue to show their outrage at the threat to close the Bebington Citizens Advice Bureau. The depth of feeling was forcefully demonstrated when Liberal Democrat Councillor Chris Teggin last night presented Wirral Council with a petition of 2,471 signatures to keep the office open. Councillor Teggin said, “Coincidentally, the first debate at Wirral Council dealt with issues of social inclusion in Wirral, when it was acknowledged that significant factors in exclusion are access to benefits, availability of jobs and mounting personal debt. “These are the very areas where readily available advice can make such a difference to people's lives. The CAB is a major partner in the campaign to deal with poverty in our Borough. “Many of the petitioners have used the service and confirm how useful the help has been. “Such a well-supported petition must be a major consideration for the CAB's Board in their current consultation exercise and review of services.” |
