‘MEALS ON WHEELS' WEEK
“We need to recruit more volunteers

Liberal Democrat Councillors Gill Gardiner and Peter Reisdorf joined Meals on Wheels staff in Greasby today as part of ‘Meals on Wheels Week' hoping to raise awareness and recruit more volunteers for the service.

Greasby, Frankby, Irby ward Councillor Gill Gardiner said,

“We wanted to show our support for an invaluable service which ensures that every client gets a hot dinner every day. The service is in need of more recruits if it is to run smoothly. I know what a massive contribution WRVS makes to the well-being of many of the vulnerable house-bound people of Wirral.  I do hope that more volunteers come forward to enable the work to continue.”

WRVS operate Wirral's Meals On Wheels service to the elderly and housebound.  In order to attract more volunteers to assist in the smooth operation of the service the organisation is holding a Meals on Wheels week between 7th and the 11th November.

Primarily they need to attract younger volunteers so that the service has a future. Although drivers need to be over the age of 21, helpers can be as young as 16.

Anyone who would like to have a go and see just what is involved in making sure every client gets a hot dinner every day is invited to ring the Meals on Wheels office on (0151)-638-5960. They will be pleased to hear from anyone who is interested in supporting this valuable service.
