COUNCILLORS TURN OUT FOR ‘MEALS ON WHEELS' WEEK Liberal Democrat Councillors Gill Gardiner and Peter Reisdorf are turning out to show support for their local Meals on Wheels service, in an attempt to raise awareness and recruit more volunteers for the service. Greasby, Frankby, Irby ward Councillor Gill Gardiner said, “We want to show our support for an invaluable service which ensures that every client gets a hot dinner every day. The service is in need of more recruits if it is to run smoothly. I hope we can help to raise awareness. It's also an ideal opportunity for us councillors to meet citizens who have difficulty getting to Area Forums, council meetings or councillors' surgeries.” WRVS operate Wirral's Meals On Wheels service to the elderly and housebound. In order to attract more volunteers to assist in the smooth operation of the service the organisation is having a Meals on Wheels week between 7th and the 11th November. Primarily they need to attract younger volunteers so that the service has a future. Although drivers need to be over the age of 21, helpers can be as young as 16. Anyone who would like to have a go and see just what is involved in making sure every client gets a hot dinner every day is invited to ring the Meals on Wheels office on (0151)-638-5960. They will be pleased to hear from anyone who is interested in supporting this valuable service. ENDS
