‘SELF CONGRATULATORY' MOTION ATTACKED

Wirral Liberal Democrats have attacked a Labour proposal to congratulate the Government and the Council's Labour Group on their budgets.

Liberal Democrat Council Group Leader Stuart Kelly said,

“We intend to expose this proposal for what it is - a cynical self-congratulatory piece of spin.

“The Labour Group publicly acknowledged the problems this Council faces as a result of Government social services underfunding, and far from helping pensioners, the Government added to their Council Tax burden by axing the £200 discount awarded last year - a cynical election bribe - and is yet to adequately address the pensions crisis. “

Councillor Kelly has submitted an amendment to the Labour proposal which will be debated at Wirral's Full Council Meeting on Monday night.
