WIRRAL LIB DEMS WELCOME RATE RELIEF FOR DOCK BUSINESSES Speaking in response to news that Liberal Democrat business minister Vince Cable has scrapped the Labour Government's backdating of business rates bills applied to dock based businesses, Councillor Stuart Kelly said: “I have written to Wirral's Finance Director, Ian Coleman, to ensure that he is no longer sending bills out to affected dock companies and that he will instead send notes rescinding those bills. “The cancellation of the backdated rates by the Minister is a huge relief to those businesses, particularly at a time of recession and I am delighted that common sense has prevailed. It's just a pity that all of Merseyside's Labour MPs combined weren't able to extract the same good sense from the previous Government, which seemed intent on bankrupting local businesses.”
