LIB DEMS WELCOME CRUISE TURNAROUND REVIEW

Speaking in relation to the Government's recent announcement to review the case for cruises to start and end at Liverpool's Pier Head, Lib Dem proposer of a Notice of Motion on this topic to 18th July Council, Councillor Ann Bridson said:

“I am really pleased that the Government is carrying out this review. Day visits already take place at Pier Head and have been very successful and bring big benefits for Wirral's economy. Cruise turnarounds are already permitted further along the river at Langton Dock.

“It is just absurd that this top class facility is being prevented from realising its full potential as a turnaround port.”

The full text of the Notice of Motion to be debated at 18th July Council is as follows:

CRUISE TURNAROUND REVIEW
Proposed by: Councillor Ann Bridson
Seconded by: Councillor Stuart Kelly

  1. This Council welcomes the Government's decision to review the case for cruises to start and end at Liverpool's Pier Head and re-iterates its support for the campaign calling for the licence to be granted for cruise turnarounds.
  2. Council requests the chief executive, and other officers as appropriate, to continue to lobby the case for a Pier Head turnaround, highlighting the economic benefit to the entire city region area.
