LIB DEMS CALL FOR FASTER ACTION ON ALCOHOL EDUCATION Speaking in response to a recent Council survey of young people's drinking habits, which revealed that Wirral children as young as 10 admit to getting drunk, Councillor Ann Bridson, Lib Dem spokesperson for Health and Wellbeing said, "Young people will always want to experiment, but it is truly shocking to see the statistics showing that over 5% of 10-year-olds responding to the survey said they had been drunk in the previous month. Clearly much more needs to be done to improve alcohol education and awareness for young people in Wirral." Councillor Dave Mitchell, Lib Dem Deputy Leader and Chair of the Alcohol Scrutiny Review, which reported earlier this year, said, "One of the recommendations made as a result of the Alcohol Review I chaired specifically asked for a higher priority to be given to alcohol education for Year 5 and 6 children in primary schools. These survey results show this to be a matter of extreme urgency if we are to take action to ensure the safety and help prevent the damage done to our young people and our communities through alcohol."
